ExxonMobil Receives U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Natural Gas STAR Award

U.S. EPA Recognizes ExxonMobil for Reducing Methane Emissions Through Technology Advances and Operational Excellence

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- ExxonMobil Production Company received a 2009 Continuing Excellence award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), under its Natural Gas STAR Program.

The Natural Gas Star Program recognizes companies that apply cost-effective technologies and management practices to improve operational efficiency and reduce methane emissions. The Continuing Excellence Award is presented to companies that annually self report to the EPA and continually demonstrate a high level of performance in reducing emissions, implementing a variety of technologies and practices, and supporting the program's activities, initiatives, and outreach.

Neil Ryan, regulatory manager for ExxonMobil's U.S. production operations, accepted the award on October 20 in San Antonio, TX.

ExxonMobil joined the EPA's Star Award program in 1995. Since then, ExxonMobil has reduced methane emissions from its U.S. production operations by more than 21 billion cubic feet - the equivalent of removing more than 1.5 million passenger cars from the road.

Over the past five years, ExxonMobil has invested more than $1.5 billion in activities that improve energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Globally, the company pursues initiatives to increase its own energy efficiency in the short term; advance proven emissions-reducing technologies in the medium term; and develop breakthrough, game-changing technologies for the long term. These initiatives will reduce emissions generated by both ExxonMobil operations and consumers.

ExxonMobil is one of the largest oil and gas producers and reserves holders in the United States, with a diverse resource and asset portfolio. ExxonMobil has a significant position in all major producing regions, including the Gulf of Mexico/Gulf Coast, the mid-continent, onshore and offshore California, and Alaska.
